Adult Mission Trip
If you've ever experienced a sense of call or a desire to serve in mission, here's your chance! A Grace UMC team of 12 people will travel to Jefferson, Iowa on Monday, September 25th to participate in the helping work of the Midwest Mission Distribution Center, returning on Wednesday, September 27th. The Iowa Annual Conference describes Midwest Mission as “a Christian organization that works to show God’s love in a practical way to those in need in their time of crisis. They send tangible resources to those in need to make an intangible difference in their lives through hope and empowerment.”
The distribution center in Jefferson, IA opened just this summer and welcomes volunteers of all ages and abilities. Danille Curtis, the Iowa Coordinator for the mission describes the work volunteers might participate in: “Here at our location there will be a variety of projects depending on what the current needs are. Some things you might be doing is verifying/packing personal dignity kits or student kits.
We also have looms for weaving sleeping mats from recycled grocery bags, sewing machines for sewing projects and a rice meal pack line. There also may be work to do around our building depending on the skills of your volunteers...for example, we may need painting done. Jobs will vary from week to week, but we will always have a variety of projects to do and something for everyone's skill levels. If someone needs to sit to work, we may have mailings to go out, thank you notes to be written or other office-type tasks. We strive to make your visit a meaningful experience for every volunteer.”
Interested? Have questions? Want to sign up? Need more details? Contact Kathy Martin at 712-490-1369 or gmakmart@gmail.com.
