The Native American Child Care Center began over 40 years ago as a cooperative effort between leaders of the Native American community and local United Methodists. Most of that time it has been at its current location, Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave. The center is licensed by the State of Iowa and is a United Way agency.
Philosophy & Purpose: To provide child care services and an early childhood education and development program primarily for, but not limited to pre- school children who identify with the Native American heritage. To promote and foster the physical, emotional, social, cultural and intellectual development of children to help them realize their full potential.
Curriculum: School readiness, self-image development, social interaction, health and nutrition, motor development, cultural awareness and parental involvement. A staff of 11 early childhood educators works with a maximum of 60 children ages 3-5 who are grouped in three classrooms according to age. Two rooms are Shared Vision rooms and the other is a Preschool Initiative room.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, August - June. Transportation is provided. Fees are on a sliding scale.
