Advent Begins November 27 and 28
The four-week season of Advent, during which we prepare our hearts and minds to once again celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, begins at the end of November… Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th. We’ll be celebrating Advent with a study, a worship series and craft ornaments!
We’ll be offering a four-week Advent study entitled “The Heart That Grew Three Sizes: Finding Faith in the Story of The Grinch”. The study will be held in a hybrid format (via Zoom online and in-person at Grace).
There’ll be two, identical sessions each week following this schedule:
Saturdays (Nov. 27, Dec. 4, 11, 18) at 1p.m.
Tuesdays (Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, 21) at 7 p.m.
Participants may select the session which best fits their schedule each week. Note that the Saturday session kicks off each week. If you plan to regularly attend the Tuesday session, but will need to miss a session, you’ll need to attend the prior Saturday.
Participants may find the study book for the series on cokesbury.com or Amazon.com.
Our worship experiences during Advent will be shaped, in part, by Rev. Matt Rawle’s book, “The Heart That Grew Three Sizes: Finding Faith in the Story of The Grinch”. Rev. Rawle is the author of other books we’ve used for studies and worship series, including “The Grace of Les Miserables”, “The Gift of the Nutcracker” and “Almost Christmas”.
Finally, EVERY member and friend of Grace United Methodist Church may pick up a wooden Heart Ornament, beginning Saturday, Nov. 27 to decorate to hang on your tree. You may decorate it “any way your heart desires”! It is yours to keep, but we’d love for you to send pictures of your finished ornaments so we can share them on Facebook and in the December issue of this newsletter. The ornaments will be available in the Grace UMC office and in the Narthex on the weekends.
Grace Church Council COVID19 Guidelines
It was moved, seconded and approved, at the August 19, 2021 meeting of our Grace Church Council, that “GUMC adopt the recommendation made by the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to highly recommend to wear masks for worship and other indoor activities at Grace as long as Woodbury County remains at a high rate of transmission. Participants in small groups where all participants are vaccinated may choose to not wear masks. (This policy will be reviewed in September) Children, ages 5 - 12 years of age are required to wear masks

Our Finance Committee would like to remind our members that the financial needs of Grace United Methodist Church continue even though we are unable to hold regular weekly church services. Members are encouraged to mail their tithes and offerings to Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa 51106.
An alternative method to mailing a physical check would be to utilize your bank’s online bill payment service. In a matter of few minutes, you can set up Grace Church as a payee and most banks' online payment services will mail the payment directly to Grace Church at no cost which eliminates the member’s cost of an envelope and postage.
