LENTEN DISCUSSION GROUP
With Pastor Jim:
I’m excited to embark on a new Lenten book discussion with many of you. Our resource book, “Entering the Passion of Jesus”, is brand new and promises to prompt some DEEP conversations.
We’ll gather on 6 consecutive Sunday mornings (8:45-9:45 a.m.) in the Large Conference Room at Grace United Methodist Church (1735 Morning-side Ave.). The books will be available soon in the church office.
What Happened in St. Louis will NOT Stay in St. Louis
A Special United Methodist General Conference was held in St. Louis from February 22 through 27. The purpose of this gathering was to receive and act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward, based on the recommendations of the Council of Bishops. The 32-member Commission was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and exploring options to strengthen the unity of the church.
All members and friends of Grace UMC are invited to a follow-up discussion on Sunday, March 24 to unpack the General Conference actions.
This follow-up will happen in our Fellowship Hall beginning at 11:15 and wrapping up around 1 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring potluck dishes to share during our conversation.
(Prior to our local follow-up conversation, Bishop Laurie Haller will be present at three locations around the conference to debrief and answer questions about the 2019 General Conference. Laity and clergy are encouraged to attend whichever session is most convenient for you. March 16th will be Livestreamed. Pastor Jim is planning to attend the Fort Dodge event.)
